THE 3rd (OF A PROJECTED 8) INSPIRED WORK
I started this painting on the 18th of February, 2009 and finished it on the 10th of May, 2009. It is an oil on canvas and measures 100cm x 160cm. It's the 3rd (of a projected 8) Byzantine inspired work. The main difference between my painting and the normal traditional version is that Mary is holding her stomach. She's doing this because I know as a mother that she must have known she was already pregnant, and for me the angel is giving a blessing to all pregnant women, believers or not. The Byzantine image is a clear and simple message of truths which still have value today, the miracle called birth and respect for the pregnant woman.
